The experiences at CT Experiential Learning Center Middle School (CELC) combine rich academics with field studies. CELC provides an educational environment that inspires learning in a personalized and meaningful way for young adolescents.
Your gift can be applied in a variety of ways. In addition to the general fund, which helps with all of the operating costs, CELC is building a scholarship fund to offset costs for students who want to be part of CELC but cannot afford the full tuition.
One of the current goals for CELC is to raise funds and find sponsorships for a steel pan orchestra. Steel pans are the only newly invented instrument of this and the past century. Originating in Trinidad after World War II, the steel oil drums that were left on the island as waste were recycled and turned into fabulous musical instruments that now have become popularized throughout the world.
Any type of music, from European Classical to Calypso, can be played on these instruments. People of all ages and abilities can learn to play and become competent musicians.
CELC plans to form a community band, consisting of students and parents of CELC, as well as collaborating with students in New Haven to form an urban-suburban youth orchestra.
Our goal of $7,000.00 would equip CELC with a full steel pan orchestra that would carry us through many years and continue to give many people the opportunity to take part.
