What does pie have to do with math?

In fact 3.14 has a lot to do with an edible food and is a very interesting math concept.  We as a class figured this out by having a day devoted to “pi”. We explored how to make circles using a pencil and a ruler. We also made a circle using a thumb tack, strip of paper, piece of paper and a pencil.  What we came up with after we did this was the definition of 3.14 is the circumference of any circle divided by its diameter. There were many types of edible pie. Classmates brought in broccoli, apple, chocolate pudding, and sweet potato pies to celebrate the day. In the future we could have a day focused on fractions and pizza!
