Connecticut Experiential Learning Center (CELC) has lots of news, all of the time! Filled with rich learning – one week may be equivalent to a month or more, and it may become difficult to report all the parts.

Here is a sample of our middle school activity, A Week In The Life:

Day One – visit by local author Doe Boyle, who workshops student writing, provides astute feedback, encourages young writers, and shares valuable techniques about peer conferencing.  Day Two – students applpiepoliticsattend political forum held at SCSU featuring professors and political journalist Erin McPike for a panel discussion about elections, past and present.  Day Three – outdoor education at Trap Rock Ridge Farm to plant winter rye and prepare gardens for next season.  Day Four – art class focusing on figure drawing with guest artist Marta Kot. chicken careDay Five – cooking class preparation of lamb ragout –  students loved the dish so much that some asked to phone home, inquiring whether it would be okay to eat it all immediately instead of later sharing with family members!) And, of course, ongoing classes each day include math, science, writing, literature, history, and Spanish, to name just some, all with students who interact, are involved, work hard, focus, engage, and become inspired.West Woods hikescience study
