Next week at CELC:

Monday, 4 April – Students will begin interviews with residents at La Casa Otoñal in New Haven.  As part of our study of immigration, CELC students will conduct oral histories and compose written memoirs about the lives of elders in this mostly Latino community.  In addition to getting to know one another, students and residents will share a traditional Latino meal, and play and sing music on authentic instruments from South America and the Caribbean.

Tuesday, 5 April- A morning of language arts with an afternoon spent at the Trap Rock Ridge Farm.  Students will finish the sap collecting and do work to prepare the organic gardens for planting.

Wednesday, 6 April – Science class, math continues, research project work, and preparation for the Freedom Riders film release.  We will also attend the Make a Difference Day charity event to support our friends who will announce the benefactor of the $10,000 they will donate to an important cause.

Thursday, 7 April – The first day of our outdoor education series at the Common Ground Environmental Education Center.

Friday, 8 April – Following yoga and a spelling test, students will attend a play at Long Wharf Theater entitled tigertigertiger.  Later, we will spend the afternoon at the Artist Collective Learning Center for an art class focusing on animation.

At 7 PM, CELC will attend the CT Premier of American Experience PBS New Film Freedom Riders and Talk-Back with Freedom Rider, Civil Rights legendary leader, Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Jr. at the Archdiocesan Center at St Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT.  This event is free and open to the public – please contact us for more information.
