As it goes at CELC, each week brings unique experiences. Some of the highlights from the last five days:

Dr. William Wernau from Heifer International, an organization whose mission is to care for the Earth and end poverty, speaks with CELC students about global issues.

Students visit Meigs Point Nature Center  at Hammonasset State Park to learn about owls. Pictured here dissecting owl pellets.

Drama class at Long Wharf Theater in New Haven : first read-through of a custom-made play related to CELC’s theme of Exploration and Discovery. Also, a visit and tour of the costume department to help students plan their own costume designs.

Mindfulness class with Gail opens up student’s senses with Shinrin-Yoku, the Japanese concept of Forest Bathing.

An ongoing ecological study of Roger’s Mill Pond – students explore the flora and fauna with environmental educator Lucy Meigs of Everyone Outside!

Next week our learning and adventures continue with intellectually challenging academics, work on an organic farm, and archery class. We have much for which we are grateful as we move toward Thanksgiving holiday.
