The new Senior Walking Club meets Friday mornings for a stroll and socializing. Co-hosted by LifeCatalyst and CT Experiential Learning Center (CELC), with the intention to provide options for seniors feeling isolated to have more connection. The walks are happily led by CELC educator Melinda Alcosser.

A camaraderie forms easily as participants enjoy chatting and asking questions about the things seen along the trail. Where do egrets nest? What type of plant is growing on that rock in the marsh? Can we see seals? … Yes!

This week the group met at Hammonasset State Park for a stroll on the Cedar Island Trail. Upon reaching the platform overlooking the marsh with views of Long Island Sound, the group shared time together, sitting quietly, taking in the sights and sounds of nature.

With plans to walk other trails, incorporate art and drawing, and open to participant suggestions of ways to expand learning and connection, the group is growing and available to any senior who wants to join. It is important to RSVP to confirm the meeting place for each walk / activity.

“I absolutely love the joviality and good humor,” says Melinda, “people who can be present, have interesting thoughts to share, and are open and eager to learn new things. Brilliant!
