As one of only 50 educators selected from across the U.S. and Canada, CELC’s Digital Storytelling teacher Michael Hernandez was chosen for an exciting professional development opportunity that will allow him to bring geographic awareness to students.

The Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship selects exemplary educators to embark on life-changing voyages to one of the many remote and extraordinary environments the Lindblad fleet explores around the world. Given the ongoing pandemic and travel restrictions, field-based experiences are currently on hold. However, once conditions allow, Hernandez will embark on a Lindblad Expeditions’ voyage to experience natural wonders alongside an outstanding expedition team including marine biologists, geologists, historians, scientists, undersea specialists, and National Geographic photographers. He will return with compelling ideas to enhance curriculum and translate his experience into documentary and journalism projects for students, colleagues, and community.

As a journalism, cinema, and photography teacher, Hernandez continues to adapt curriculum for remote learning and to share ideas to help other teachers do the same. He has published a book to help teachers create podcasts for the classroom, developed an online course for media literacy, and curated an ongoing list of resources for remote teaching.  CELC is honored to have such a creative educator as part of its faculty, bringing knowledge, skill, and experience to CELC’s learning community.
